Band is an after-school enrichment program offered to 4th and 5th grade students.

The band is currently directed by Andy Morales. He has vast experience teaching a variety of instruments. He is the band teacher at Columbia Middle School and plays professionally as well.

Band starts in the middle of September and goes through the end of the school year. Band practice is held weekly. It has typically been on Wednesdays after school in the multipurpose room. There’s an “A” and a “B” band. The A band consists mostly of 2nd year band students (5th graders), but some 4th graders who have prior experience are in the A band. The “B” band is for 1st year band students. The “B” band practices from 3pm-4pm and the “A” band practices from 4pm-5pm. The day and time is subject to change depending on the band director’s schedule and the multipurpose room availability.

There is a winter concert and an end of the year concert as well as other opportunities to play in front of a public audience, such as Little League opening day.

Band sign ups take place at the end of the school year for the following year. To sign up for band, please fill out an application at the end of the school year. The teachers will hand out application forms to all 3rd and 4th grade students in May. The forms are also available in the office. Additional sign-ups may be considered at the beginning of the school year if there is availability.

An informational band meeting will be held at the beginning of the school year. At this meeting, parents will get all the information about band, pay band tuition, rent instruments and purchase or order band T-shirts.

The band has a limited number of instruments for rent. The rental fee is $75 for the year. It is on a first come, first serve basis.

Band tuition is $200 for each student.

All parents contribute volunteer time to support this program. Communication within the group is done through the Cumberland yahoo group:
