STEAM Fair

Grades: K-5

The Cumberland Science Fair is here! And all grade levels are invited (and encouraged!) to spark their curiosity and sign up!

The 24th Annual STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Fair is a non-competitive event that provides an invaluable opportunity for young minds to get hands-on experience exploring the wonders of science. From January to February, students will work individually or in a team to create a STEAM-based project that will inspire them to think critically and creatively—problem-solving skills they can apply throughout their lives.

Depending on grade level, projects can be as simple as tracking coin flips to creating battery potatoes (and even more!). To get an idea of what can be covered we’ve provided some STEAM projects and poster board examples for you.

Around the end of February, the project will culminate with your student assembling key parts of their work on to large PTA-supplied display boards. These boards will be exhibited at the STEAM Fair on Tue. Mar. 5 from 6-7:30pm (Parents and Caregivers) and Wed. Mar. 6 from 8:30-10am (Classroom visits).

Be on the lookout for your Student Guide the week of 1/18/24 for more information

Volunteers

We’d love your help! If you’d like to volunteer, there are plenty of opportunities from classroom visits to present the STEAM Fair in mid January to the actual day of the event in March. Just send an email to steamfair@cumberlandpta.org to express your interest.

Parents and Caregivers

Some projects will be completed within the classroom setting. Your child’s teacher will let you know what their plans are in their regular correspondence to you. There will be a paper document that is sent home with your child but sometimes those get lost, so you can also get it here:
